Our History – one of the first UK Patent Attorneys

We don’t like to dwell too much on our history. Our clients come to us because we’re approachable, flexible and recognised experts in cutting edge technology – not because we’ve been around for over 160 years.

However, for the history buffs among you, the ‘Brookes’ in Brookes Batchellor can be traced as far back as 1852 to William Brookes, one of the first UK patent attorneys.

Brookes and his colleagues specialised in inventions for the textile industry, which included spinning and weaving machines. Technology has advanced beyond recognition since then, but our commitment to supporting and protecting new ideas is the same as ever.

The ‘Batchellor’ comes from the 2001 merger of two well-respected partnerships: Brookes & Martin and Batchellor Kirk & Co.
